The national budget of Tk 7 lakh 97 thousand crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 has been passed by the National Parliament. The budget was passed by voice vote in the parliament session held yesterday under the chairmanship of Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. The budget will be effective from today. Prior to this, the specification will be gazetted subject to the assent of the President. Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali raised the Finance Bill in the Parliament last Saturday afternoon and later it was passed by the Parliament. Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali presented the budget in the National Parliament on June 6 with the slogan 'Dream of Smart Bangladesh in the context of sustainable development'. Earlier, Parliament leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali spoke on the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. 236 MPs including Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition and Finance Minister spoke on the budget. Awami League, Jatiya Party, other parties and independent MPs participated in the discussion from June 11.
