Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forests, Climate Change and Water Resources, said that millions of people in the haor area depend on boro crops. The work of the wind protection dam must be completed quickly to protect boro crops from premature floods. No irregularities will be tolerated in this regard. She said these things during an exchange of views with officials of the Water Development Board after visiting Matian Haor in Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj yesterday. Rizwana Hasan said that tourism activities in haor will continue, but it will be controlled and under adequate surveillance. She also called on everyone to be aware of the environment by developing controlled tourism businesses in haor.
Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture and Home Affairs Lieutenant General Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Secretary to the Ministry of Water Resources Nazmul Ahsan, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anwar Hossain Khan and officials of the Water Development Board were present at the time.
Later, he inspected the crop protection dams of various haors, including the dam of Tanguar Haor. The Sunamganj Water Development Board has said that 1,700 kilometers of dams will be constructed this year to protect boro paddy of 134 haors.
