BAPEX has discovered new gas in Well No. 8 of Kailashtila, Sylhet. With this, gas was found in four wells in Sylhet in the last seven months. Managing Director of Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) Mizanur Rahman said that BAPEX started drilling in well number 8 of Kailashtila from January last year. Gas has been found at a depth of 3,440 to 55,000 feet. Now 21 million cubic feet of gas is being experimentally extracted daily. Full lifting is expected to begin within 3 months. According to SGFL sources, the Sylhet Gasfield Authority has been continuing the exploration and drilling of wells in Sylhet since last year. As a part of that, the excavation work in Kailashtila well number 8 started in early 2023. About 100 million cubic feet of gas is being added to the national grid every day from the production wells of Sylhet Gasfield Limited. Production is expected to reach 150 million cubic feet after completion of a few more projects this year. If completed by 2025, it will be possible to add 250 million gas per day to the national grid from this company alone. Before this, on January 27, a new level of gas was discovered in Well No. 2 of Rashidpur under Sylhet Gasfield, which was about 157 billion cubic feet.
