World Museum Day was celebrated yesterday in Sylhet like the rest of the country with the theme "Museums for education and research". The purpose of this day is to show the museums as a center of promotion and communication in preserving the common heritage of human civilization and to maintain their position in the world civilization along with preservation and display of various historical monuments. In addition, museums are important means of cultural exchange, cultural enrichment, mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among people. Since 1978, the International Committee of Museums (ICOM) has decided to observe May 18 as World Museum Day every year. Various social and cultural organizations organize elaborate programs on the occasion of the day. Among these programs were awareness rallies and discussion meetings.
